Assam Govt to reopen Schools, Colleges from November 2

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Schools and Colleges in Assam are all set to reopen from November 2. While announcing the dates for reopening schools and colleges, the Education Minister has also issued guidelines that have to be followed.

Schools and Colleges would reopen for students in Assam from November 2, 2020. Assam Education Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the school, college reopening dates for the state. The schools, however, would only open for students of classes 6 to 12. Fresh guidelines for reopening of schools and colleges would also be released at a later date.

As for the reopening of schools for classes nursery to 5, no decision has been taken. Sarma has stated that all the other classes would remain suspended until further notice. The schools are to devise staggered timelines for all the classes from 6 to 12. As for the Universities and Colleges, they would be allowed to reopen as per the guidelines issued.

The state had allowed the reopening of schools for allowing students who wish to visit the school from September 21. The students of classes 9 to 12 were permitted to visit the school on a voluntary basis. With MHA permitting the reopening of schools from October 15 and removing the restriction of classes allowed, the states are now free to reopen the schools.

However, under the Unlock 5.0 guidelines, the attendance is not to be mandatory. Also, students would require the consent of the parent to attend the school. Revision of the Unlock 5.0 Guidelines may remove the clause. At present, the schools in the country are to be reopened under strict guidelines as issued by the Health Ministry as well as the Education Ministry.

Also, as for colleges, only the postgraduate colleges are allowed to resume classes for those courses that require research/ laboratory work. Permission has also been allowed for professional/ technical courses. Unlock 5.0 does not allow the reopening of colleges for arts/ commerce classes.
