Assam govt to promote all students from class 1 to 9 even if they do not appear in exams

GUWAHATI: The Assam Education department has clarified that all the students from Class 1 to 9th standard should be promoted to the next class whether they appear in the examination or not.

An order issued by the Commissioner-Secretary in the Education Department said that though the schools could hold annual examinations in the first week of this month, but it was not mandatory for students to appear.

The order said that classes for the next session would begin from the 1st of next month and this order is applicable to all non – government schools of Assam. This decision was taken due to the lockdown situation.

“It has come to notice of the Government in Education Department that there is confusion among the school authorities regarding the conduct of annual examination for the Elementary Section(Class I to VIII) and class IX of Secondary Scheme.

Now, Considering all aspects and also the fact that the students do not lose any academic year, Educational Institutions can conduct Annual Examination physically in schools, but it is not compulsory and the Annual exam can be conducted in the 1st week of March 2021,” stated the official Order.

The notice read that schools can conduct annual examinations but it is not compulsory for students to attend them.

“Further, Irrespective of the fact that the students appear in the annual examinations or not, the students of the Elementary Section(Class I to VIII) and class IX of Secondary section should be promoted to the next higher classes and the next Academic session should start invariably from 1st April, 2021, unless there is any further direction from the Government.

The above Order is also applicable to all non-Government Educational Institutions in the State of Assam,” the order stated.
