Assam Govt. to increase stake in Numaligarh Refinery

GUWAHATI: Assam government has decided to increase its stake to 26 per cent in Numaligarh Refinery Limited to retain its public character.

Addressing a press meet in Guwahati, Assam Health, Finance and Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Because of the goodwill of the government of Assam and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Government of India has decided to retain Numaligarh Refinery under public sector. Assam government has proposed the centre to return our original shares.”

For the proposed move Assam finance department has offered Rs. 1500 crore to buy original shares of Assam and to increase its stake in NRL to 26 percent, Sarma added.
“Congress government in Assam had sold 14% of the government of Assam shares of Numaligarh Refinery Limited which was established under Assam Accord,” Dr. Sarma stated in a Tweet.
