Guwahati: Taking cabinet meetings outside the Dispur, the BJP led government will hold a cabinet meeting in Dhemaji today, 30 September at 11 AM. The meeting will take place in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The state government has decided to hold a cabinet meeting in a roaster outside Dispur. Flood-prone Dhemaji is situated north of the river Brahmaputra and roughly 450 km away from Guwahati. The district shares a border with Arunachal Pradesh.

The BJP led government in Assam completed 100 days in the office of the second term in August this year.

The state government has also decided that one cabinet meeting every month will be held in different districts. There is a cabinet meeting every week.

The district has two legislative assembly constituencies, Dhemaji LAC and Jonai. Dhemaji seat is represented by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu while Jonai LAC is represented by BJP MLA Bhuban Pegu.

The woes of Dhemaji are two-fold. For one, floodwaters have engulfed the fertile farm fields leaving villagers homeless and poor.

Secondly, large chunks of land are gradually eroding away. The people and organizations have shown optimism centering around the cabinet meeting with regard to the resolve of the perennial flood and erosion problem of the district.
