Assam govt renames ‘Garhkaptani Bibhag’ (PWD) as ‘Lok Nirman Bibhag’

Guwahati: In a major development, the Assam Government has renamed Public Works Department (PWD) as ‘Lok Nirman Bibhag’ in Assamese instead of ‘Garhkaptani Bibhag’. This was stated through an order by Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi (No. B&NH/ET/34/2020/12).

As mentioned in the notification, with the approval of the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma the department has been renamed as ‘Lok Nirman Bibhag’ in the State.

“In the interest of the public service and for administrative convenience, it has been decided to rename the Public Works Department in Assamese as Lok Nirman Bibhag in place of Garhkaptani Bibhag,” the order read”.

“Henceforth, Public Works Department in Assamese will be known as Lok Nirman Bibhag instead of Garhkaptani Bibhag from the date of issue of this notification,” it added.

“This is issued with the approval of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Assam and Hon’ble Minister, PWD etc,” it further stated.

PWD Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma on Wednesday attended a review meeting of the preparatory work of the third phase of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-3).

At the Convention and Training Center of the PWD division at Last Gate, Dispur, Dr. Sharma, in the presence of the MPs discussed the projects and reviewed all the further implementations.

The meeting was attended by all the stakeholders of the project implementation group.

The agenda of the projects which will be starting soon in the near future under this scheme was discussed in the meeting.
