Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya reviews development projects in Hojai, attends SHG exhibition

GUWAHATI, Jan 28: On his maiden visit to Hojai district, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya held a review meeting with district administration officials at the District Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Hojai on Monday. The meeting was also attended by Hojai MLA Ram Krishana Ghosh and Lumding MLA Sibu Mishra besides other officials of the district.

Hojai District Commissioner, Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati, presented a detailed report on the implementation status of various state and central government schemes. Officials from key departments, including P&RD, Education, PWD, PHE, Agriculture, Fisheries, Sericulture, Forest, and Irrigation, provided updates on their respective progress.

The Governor underlined the importance of introspection and urged all departments to identify the areas which require urgent attention and address the issues to expedite the process of development for the welfare of all.

Highlighting the implementation of MGNREGA, the Governor directed officials to ensure timely completion of all works to ensure guaranteed wage to the people. He also took note of the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana and expressed satisfaction on the progress of the scheme.

Taking stock of the Amrit Sarovar project, the Governor underscored the importance of transforming Amrit Sarovars into community-centric spaces where apart from environmentally significant steps like water conservation, tree plantation etc, activities such as flag hoisting, community assembly for listening to ‘Mann Ki Baat’ etc can be held.

During the review of the National Social Assistance Programme, the Governor urged officials to expedite the process to ensure timely benefits for the needy. He also took note of the progress of the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM).

On the education front, the Governor drew special attention towards girls’ education and directed officials to ensure adequate facilities for girl students. The Governor also asked the officials to raise awareness about becoming ‘Nikshay Mitra’ to support the eradication of tuberculosis (TB).

Earlier, upon his arrival in Hojai, the Governor visited an exhibition organized by NABARD at Circuit House, where self-help groups showcased their products of self-reliance. Shri Acharya also bought some items from the exhibition.

Later he visited the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Sub Divisional Civil Hospital in Lumding.
