Assam Governor, CM Sonowal, Min Himanta Biswa Sarma pay tribute to Bishnu Prasad Rabha

GUWAHTI: Assam has been fondly recalling the contributions of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha on his death anniversary which is celebrated as Rabha Divas. Assam governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, health and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to Rabha, one of the doyens of Assamese culture and literature.

Born on January 31, 1909, Bishnu Prasad Rabha made immense contributions towards the fields of music, dance, painting, literature as well as political activism in Assam. The revolutionary leader fought against British rule and was imprisoned several times. The evergreen songs composed by Rabha are known as ‘Rabha Sangeet.’

The legendary cultural icon died on June 20 in 1969.

Several other noted personalities, organisations also commemorated Bishu Prasad Rabha on his death anniversary. Though Rabha Divas has not been organised in a befitting manner this year because of COVID-19 pandemic, online events have been organised by various organisations to pay tribute to the pioneer.
