GUWAHATI: In a major boost to Assam’s COVID-19 testing facilities, the state got 2 lakh Rapid Point of Care Antigen Detection Test kits on Thursday. The new testing tool has been approved by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for quick diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 in a field setting.

A demonstration of this kit was conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the presence of Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Dr. Sarma stated in a tweet that 1 lakh kits would be deployed in Guwahati which has been witnessing rapid spread of the virus.

“This, coupled with ongoing gold standard RT-PCR tests, further sharpens our testing abilities,” he expressed hope.
