As Durga Puja inches closer, the buzz around Assam are getting vibrant with beautiful Puja pandals getting the final touches. Despite the forecast of rainfall during Puja, people of the State are unfazed and immersed in the Puja mood.
Meanwhile, an explosion occurred just days ahead of Durga Puja and the first One-Day-International between India and West Indies in Guwahati on October 21. Keeping this in mind, police informed that security has been increased so that festivities are celebrated unhindered and there should not be any problem of law and order. Police further informed that all the Puja volunteers are working together with the police, and enough force has been sent to all other districts. Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia after the blast said there were no specific threats, adding that police would review the security situation.
On the other hand, all the big budget Puja committees across the State, with large size idols of Goddess Durga, her four children and the demon on feet, have engaged artistes from far off Siliguri, Cooch Behar, Nadia and other places of West Bengal. Idols are being made inside the pandals and the organizers keep a close watch on the making. Apart from designs and artistry inside the pandals, illuminations form part of making the Puja more attractive.
