Taking a step forward, Gauhati University following a directive from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India (MWCD) has introduce menstrual leave for female students by allowing a 2% relaxation in minimum class attendance of 75%.
The university, through a notification dated November 9, and subject to ratification in the Executive Council, has decided to grant a 2 per cent relaxation in minimum class attendance for female students under the category of “menstrual leave.”
According to the directive, female students will now be required to maintain a minimum class attendance of 73 per cent to be eligible to sit in semester examinations.
As per sources, this step is aimed at providing female students with a supportive and inclusive academic environment by recognizing challenges faced by the girls, promoting inclusivity and acknowledging the importance of their well-being.
