A woman who gave birth to a boy on a country boat in Assam’s Golaghat district has been named ‘Krishna’. Rumi Pathari, the woman in labour hailing from Aphalagaon near Numaligarh town, who was assisted by ASHA worker Manju Chetri and doctor Trolukya Saikia, gave birth to a healthy baby on the country boat as her husband failed to take her to the nearest health centre due to the floods.
The couple, identified as Dulal Pathari and his wife Rumi, named their newborn baby after Lord Krishna as the birth of their baby boy had resemblance with mythological narratives surround the birth of Lod Krishna.
“As she experienced labour pain, I had no option but to take her to the hospital in a country boat. There was water everywhere. However, we could not make it to the hospital when she delivered a baby, assisted by Dr Trolukya Saikia and an ASHA worker,” Dulal Pathari said.
“We have named him after Lord Krishna since he was born on a rainy night,” mother Rumi said.
The mother and the newborn baby were later shifted to Bokakhat Civil Hospital.
