Assam floods: Teachers of this school in Lakhimpur district unsure how they will resume normal classes ~ As the flood situation in Assam improves with waters receding, people are now faced with the uphill task of rebuilding their lives. And for many of them, work will have to begin from scratch.

Muck and sand could be seen almost everywhere where there were once homes and croplands.

Along with houses, the floods have inflicted unimaginable damage and destruction to several educational institutions.

Teachers of many schools now are unsure as to they will resume normal classes once students start returning.

Teachers and the non-teaching staff of No 2 Pasnoi Upper Primary School in Lakhimpur district are almost in tears after returning to schools. All they could see is muck and slush everywhere. Most of the books were either washed away by floodwaters while others have been rendered unusable.

Everything from the sound system to trunks storing books and other accessories have been damaged in the deluge.

“Just look at the mess. There is muck and slush everywhere. Classrooms are covered with mud. Floodwaters have swept away books and other accessories. We simply do not know how will we resume classes? Maybe when students return we might have to conduct classes outside, near the road or under the trees,” a schoolteacher told News Live.
