Assam Floods: Over 5 lakh people have been affected so far by the first wave of deluge this year
Assam Floods: PM Modi dials CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, takes stock of situation ~ Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took stock of the flood situation in Assam and, while expressing his concern, assured full central support in mitigating the crisis.
Prime Minister Modi called Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and inquired about the situation arising out of the deluge.
Chief Minister Dr Sarma apprised him of the situation and about the relief measures undertaken by the State Governemnt while assuring full support from the central government.
“A short while ago, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji called me to enquire about the current flood situation in Assam.
I briefed him on how continuous rainfall in Assam and adjoining states has led to flooding and impacted many lives. I also apprised him of the relief operation undertaken by the state government.
The Hon’ble PM expressed concern and assured full support from the Central Government for our relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Grateful for his guidance and unwavering support to the people of Assam,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma stated in a post on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.
Sixty-four revenue circles in 21 districts and have been affected by the present wave of floods in the State, the flood bulletin issued by the Government on Tuesday morning stated.
Over 5 lakh people have been hit by the deluge with 1,250 villages affected across Assam.
Over thirty-one thousand people are living in 165 relief camps while 157 relief distribution camps have also been opened by the government.
One person lost his life in Hojai in the past 24 hours, the flood bulletin added.
Meanwhile, 15,237 people living in 6 revenue circles under two districts — Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) — have been hit by urban flooding as on Tuesday morning, the flood bulletin further stated.
