Assam elections: Himanta Biswa Sarma files nomination in Guwahati


GUWAHATI: High-profile BJP leader and Assam finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma filed his nomination papers for Jalukbari seat in Guwahati on Friday.

Dr. Sarma filed his nomination at the Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner’s office following a grand road show which was attended by thousands of party workers and well-wishers. The rally has turned into a show of strength for minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as well as BJP in Assam.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Manipur CM N Biren Singh, BJP’s in-charge in Assam Baijayant Panda, BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia and several other top leaders also accompanied Dr. Sarma in filing the nomination. His wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma was also with the minister.

“I express my gratitude to the people of Assam and Jalukbari for joining me to file my nomination with such a grand rally,” Dr. Sarma said.

He reiterated that the BJP is fighting the elections to safeguard the culture and civilisation of the State.
