Assam Elections: Congress, Akhil, Lurin not factors, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: NEDA convenor and Assam finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said Assam assembly elections 2021 would be fought between the BJP and AIUDF chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal. The minister said Congress, Akhil Gogoi or Lurinjyoti Gogoi are not factors in this election.

“This election is entirely between Ajmal and BJP. Congres, Akhil Gogoi, Lurin Gogoi—those are not factors at all,” Sarma claimed.

The senior BJP leader alleged that by aligning with Badruddin Ajmal, Congress has isolated the party from the mainstream people for next 50 years.

“If you are so strong, you have Priyanka, Rahul with you, then why you have to align with Ajmal?” he asked.

“Our entire issue is how can you align with Mr. Ajmal? You can’t have a migrant Muslim who has not yet adopted Assamese culture fully. Give me a single instance where you have seen Mr. Ajmal in Bohag Bihu,” Sarma added.
