Guwahati: Eight people have been killed in accidents on the first day of the new year in Assam.
Nagaon, 2 dead
Two students who were returning home on a motorcycle after the new year party on Wednesday night met with a tragic accident in Nagaon. They have been identified as Himangshu Prakash Gogoi (22) and Nabanita Arandhara (19). Both were students of Nagaon ITI. The motorcycle (Pulsar) hit a wall near Panigaon Chariali and the rider Himangshu died on the spot. The other rider Nabanita who was seriously injured was taken to Swahid Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital in Nagaon where she was declared dead by the doctors. Both the deceased were from Sivasagar district.
Balipara, 2 dead
A youth died on the spot in 18 Mile near Balipara when his motorcycle (Pulsar) fell into a pond on Wednesday afternoon. According to reports the rider who was travelling from Khonamukh towards Ballpara lost control of the bike and met with the accident. The deceased has been identified as Bishal Biswas (22), a resident of Dighali Balijan, Ballpara. The pillion rider who was seriously injured was taken to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Prakash Sahu (25), a resident of 1 No. Miripathar.
Kawoimari, Tezpur, 2 dead
A motorcycle rider lost his life when his bike was hit by a passenger bus (Travellers) near Kawoimari under Thelamara Police Outpost in the evening. The deceased has been identified as Sushil Nath (43). The passenger bus was travelling from Guwahati to Tezpur when the accident happened. Sushil Nath was seriously injured and died while he was being taken to the nearest hospital.
Dipila, Darrang, 1 dead
A man lost his life and a two year old was injured when two, bike-borne, youth hit them in the morning hours. The dead has been identified as Mukut Das (38) of Kahintoli. The two-year-old son of Mukut Das has been injured in the incident.
Mankachar, Bagharchor 1 dead
One motorcycle rider died on the spot in Bagarchor when his bike hit a pole in the wee hours on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Jamirul Islam (28) who was a resident of Bagharchar area. Another rider identified as Phulbabu (27) was seriously injured in the mishap.
