Assam’s Uma Chetry has finally made it to the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team after being named in the squad to face Bangladesh in the upcoming series.
Uma Chetry became the first from Assam to get selected for the senior national team when she was named for the teams for upcoming Bangladesh tour.
A wicket-keeper batter from Assam’s Bokakhat recently was a part of the India A team that won the Asia Emerging Cricket Tournament in Hong Kong. In the two matches India got to play, Uma played a crucial role both as a batter and behind the stumps.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the squads to take on Bangladesh in the three-match T20 and ODI series to be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
According to reports, Uma Chetry has been drafted to both the T20 and ODI squads that will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur.
Assam Cricket Association’s (ACA) Uma Chetry is a wicket-keeper and has made the berth her own now.
Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh has been left out of the India Women squads for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Ghosh has made way for uncapped Uma Chetry in both the ODI and T20I squads. Chetry had recently been picked in the India A squad for the Emerging Asia Cup tournament.
The tour kickstarts with the three-match T20I series from July 9 in Mirpur and will be followed by three ODIs at the same venue. The series concludes on July 22.
