Assam: COVID-19 vaccination drive at 65 centres

GUWAHATI: The COVID-19 vaccination drive in Assam is all set to begin on January 16 (Saturday) at 65 centres. This was informed by Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Dr. Sarma said, “COVISHIELD vaccine will be administered at 59 centres and COVAXIN at 6 centres across the state. We have clearly demarcated where COVISHIELD and COVAXIN are going and the reason is to avoid complicacy and duplicates.”

“The drive will start on Saturday and will be the world’s largest vaccination drive. Almost 30 crore Indians will receive the vaccine,” added Dr.Sarma.

“The vaccine is not recommended for pregnant mothers and children below 18 years of age,” he further said.

The programme will be inaugurated at 10:30 AM across all 65 centres including Assam Medical College(AMC)  and Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will be present respectively.
