GUWAHATI: Assam on Saturday reported 3,571 new COVID-19 cases which took the state tally to 4,80,730. The state also reported 40 fatalities to COVID-19. With this the death toll reached 4,1789, the National Health Mission bulletin said.
Sonitpur district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 295, followed by 251 in Tinsukia, 249 in Golaghat, and 228 in Nagaon.
Nagaon reported the highest number of fresh fatalities at 16, followed by four in Sonitpur, three each in Kamrup Metropolitan and Kamrup, two each in Barpeta, Karimganj, and Tinsukia, and one each in Baksa, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Darrang, Dhubri, Golaghat, Kokrajhar, and Sivasagar.
The NHM said 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died till now, but the government’s Death Audit Board has not included them in the tally of deaths caused by the COVID-19 as they had other ailments too.

With the detection of 3,571 patients against the testing of 1,61,420 samples on Saturday, Assam has reported a positivity rate of 2.21 per cent for the day, the bulletin said.
The state now has 34,021 active cases, while 4,41,184 people have recovered from the infection thus far, including 5,141 on Saturday.
The state has vaccinated 53,19,923 people, of whom 10,55,005 have received both doses.
It said that a total of 1,13,749 persons were vaccinated on Saturday, down from 1,17,570 shots on Friday.
