The Opposition Congress in Assam has again found itself in another crisis ahead of Lok Sabha polls, as Senior leader Rana Goswami from the grand old party has tendered his resignation as the working President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as an active member of Indian National Congress on February 28.
Goswami has already quit as organizational in-charge of upper Assam, including the districts of Dhemaji, North Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Biswanath.
Goswami, a former MLA from Jorhat constituency, is the second of three working presidents of Assam PCC, who are in conflict with the current leadership of the state Congress.
Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha recently resigned from the post of Assam PCC working president and has extended support to the BJP-led govt along with another sitting MLA Basanta Das.
On February 14, two Congress MLAs — Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, who was the working president, and Basanta Das, who was a minister in the Tarun Gogoi government — announced to “support the government” without leaving the grand old party.
