GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has found evidence of involvement of at least six persons in the Gorukhuti violence incident. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters in Guwahati on Saturday that the government has received information that certain elements were involved in instigating violence during the eviction drive.

“From the poor, landless families certain people have collected Rs. 28 lakh saying that they are going to convince the government and there will be no eviction. We have the evidence. When they could not register a case against the eviction drive they mobilised these people and created havoc on that particular day,” said Dr. Sarma.

“We have the names of six people with due intelligence that Rs. 28 lakh was credited. Apart from the day of the incident in the name of carrying food articles to the evicted families PFI visited the site. Evidence is now emerging indicating certain people including a lecturer from one college of Assam being involved. So, all these things are emerging and the government is enquiring. Eviction was done against 60 families, and so where from these 10 thousand people came,” said Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
