GUWAHATI: July 1 is celebrated as National Chartered Accountant Day in India. The day is observed in order to celebrate the formation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on July 1, 1949.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on the occasion of Chartered Accountants Day said that Chartered Accountants play a pivotal role in nation-building and wished for their future endeavours.
The Chief Minister Tweeted, “Chartered Accountants with their financial acumen and wisdom play a pivotal role in nation-building. Let’s wish all CAs the best in their future endeavour on this day marked by foundation of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India @theicai.”

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, viz. The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 (Act No.XXXVIII of 1949) for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. The Institute, functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The ICAI is the second largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world, with a strong tradition of service to the Indian economy in the public interest.
