Assam CM urges Amir Khan to postpone his visit to state due to Independence Day celebrations

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister HimantaBiswaSarma has urged Bollywood actor AamirKhan to postpone his visit to the state until after August 15 so that Independence Day celebrations and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative are not diluted during the actor’s visit to the state, TOI reported.

Reportedly, Aamir Khan and his team intended to arrive in Guwahati on August 14 to promote his newly released film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.

“Aamir Khan wanted to come here and even spoke to me. But because this time, the focus is on Independence Day and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, we did not want it to get diluted. Therefore, I requested him to postpone and to come after Independence Day,” CM Sarma was quoted as saying by TOI.

CM Sarma added that he has good terms with Aamir Khan and they often speak over the telephone.

“He will visit the state whenever I ask him. We will fix the date later,” he further said.

Notably, during the recent floods in the state, Aamir Khan extended a helping hand by making a contribution of Rs 25 lakh towards the CM Relief Fund.

The Chief Minister then took to Twitter to thank the Bollywood actor.
