Assam CM Sonowal takes stock of flood situation in Goalpara

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday visited flood-hit Goalapra district to take stock of the situation. Sonowal visited flood relief camps set up by the government at Agia Balijana Girls’ High School and Dwarka Primary School and reviewed rescue and relief measures. The chief minister directed the administration to render all possible help to the marooned people.

He distributed food packets among the flood affected people.

Sonowal also inspected the flood-damaged site of Agia-Lakhipur road and instructed the officials concerned to immediately repair the washed out portion to restore road connectivity in the region.

Later at a meeting, CM Sonowal directed the Goalapara district administration to carry out rescue and relief operations on war footing and distribute relief materials to deluge-hit people.

He also asked the officials to ensure social distancing at the relief camps and provide quality food and water. Sonowal urged the administration to take special care of elderly people, children and pregnant women.

On the other hand, CM Sarbananda Sonowal instructed the officials to take necessary steps to avoid the incidents of electrocution. He also asked the administration to help the affected farmers and provide food to the animals.

The chief minister also visited Dudhnoi Ayurvedic Hospital and took stock of COVID-19 quarantine facilities.
