Assam CM Sonowal distributes scooties to girl students in Majuli

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday distributed scooties to meritorious girl students of his constituency Majuli under Dr. Banikanta Kakati Award of Pragyan Bharati Scheme launched by the state government. Total 121 girl students of the river island who had passed the higher secondary 2nd year examinations 2020 with first division received the award under the ambitious scheme. The function was held at Namoni Majuli.

to 121 meritorious girl students as part of the Dr #BanikantaKakatiAward at his home constituency Majuli,” chief minister office tweeted. 

The flagship scheme was launched on December 20 at a programme at Amingaon in Kamrup district by Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Under the Pragyan Bharati scheme, total Rs. 144.30 crore will be spent to provide scooties to 22245 girl students to make their journey in the pursuit of knowledge smoother.

While, 22034 students have opted for petrol-driven scooter, 211 girl students have chosen battery-driven scooter.

In the programme, the CM also laid the foundation stone of Borduwar Government Model College and ceremonially inaugurated 16 schemes of different departments.
