Assam: CM Sarma Orders investigation Into Nagaon Police Firing

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr.  Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered an investigation into the Nagaon incident where a student leader was shot at by police during an anti-drug operation.

Addressing a press conference, CM Sarma informed that the investigation will be led by Additional Chief Secretary Pawan Borthakur, CM Sarma said.

He also stressed on the fact that the investigation report will have be submitted within seven days.

“State police should be a friend of the common people but act sternly against criminals,” he said.

“Simultenously, strong action will also be taken against police officers who are at fault,” he added.

On Saturday, a member of the All Assam Students’ Union, or AASU, was shot by the sleuths of the Anti-Narcotics Squad in Nagaon last night.

As per reports, the student leader, identified as Kirtikamal Bora, was shot by Assam Police after he allegedly physically attacked police officials on duty.

However, all such allegations have been rubbished by Bora’s family members, who have demanded a thorough probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, Bora, who received bullet injuries in his leg, is currently admitted at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. 

Nagaon SP Anand Mishra, meanwhile, has assured of a proper investigation of the case.

He added that the incident happened when the teams of police officials were on an anti-drug mission.
