GUWAHATI, Dec 16: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, arrived at the Bhutanese capital Thimpu today and was given a grand reception by Bhutanese Foreign Minister Lyonpo DN Dhungyel at the airport.
Dr Sarma, who is on a four-day visit to the neighbouring country at the invitation of Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, will attend the country’s National Day Celebrations tomorrow as chief guest.
“I am on my way to Thimphu to attend Bhutan’s National Day Celebrations at the invitation of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. This visit, I sincerely hope, will reinforce the enduring friendship between the great people of Bhutan,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma wrote on his ‘X’ handle prior to leaving for Thimpu earlier in the morning today.
