Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today (April 27) upped his tirade against Congress MP from Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi, firing a volley of questions at the Deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha on his Pakistan visit besides also seeking answers on the present citizenship status of Gogoi’s British wife Elizabeth Colburn and their two children.

“Questions for the Hon’ble Member of Parliament from the Congress Party:

1.Did you visit Pakistan for a continuous period of 15 days? If so, could you kindly clarify the purpose of your visit?

2.Is it true that your wife continues to receive a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while residing and working in India? If so, may we ask why a Pakistan-based organization is paying a salary for activities conducted in India?

3.What is the citizenship status of your wife and your two children? Are they Indian citizens, or do they hold the citizenship of any other country?,” the Assam CM wrote on ‘X’, formerly Twitter, seeking answers from Gogoi — son of former three-term Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi — while also stating that “many more questions will follow”.

LISTEN INTO THE QUESTIONS FIRED AT GAURAV GOGOI BY CM Dr HIMANTA BISWA SARMA:

The Assam Chief Minister has been questioning Gaurav Gogoi without naming him directly, seeking answers from him on the purpose of his visit and why he does not admit to visiting the enemy nation and staying there for 15 days.

Gaurav, the Chief Minister also said, has been beating around the bush and refraining himself from answering in a clear “yes” or a “no” but trying to deflect the question to other issues.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma had said that the government has enough evidence to establish the fact that the Congress MP had visited Pakistan while daring him to deny that he never visited Pakistan.

The Assam CM also questioned why Gogoi, despite being a Parliamentarian and the son of a former chief minister, did not inform the central government about his visit to the enemy nation.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma further stated that the SIT formed to look into the issue will come up with startling facts regarding the Congress MP’s Pakistan visits and his British wife Elizabeth’s connections with Pakistan and why she was receiving salary from Pakistan for three years despite working for a Delhi-based NGO.

The Assam Government, it may be mentioned here, had in February this year constituted a 4-member SIT to look into the alleged links of the Congress MP’s British wife with Pakistani citizen Ali Tauqir Sheikh who, the Chief Minister said, has close links with the Pakistani establishment and the ISI.

It now remains to be seen as to how the Congress MP responds to the Chief Minister Dr Sarma’s volley of questions or whether he continues to deflect the issue as he has been doing in the past couple of days.
