Assam CM announces Majuli-Jorhat bridge construction to start from Nov 30

Guwahati:  Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the construction work of the new bridge in Majuli connecting Jorhat will be started from November 30.

CM Sarma who was on a visit to island district of Majuli said that he would again visit Majuli on November 30 and will lay the foundation stone of the new bridge.

Meanwhile, another bridge will also be constructed connecting Majuli to Sivasagar under the Asom Mala Scheme.

He said, “The first pile foundation will be started on November 30 and it will take four years to complete the bridge.” 

Taking to his Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “To expedite construction of Majuli-Jorhat bridge, held a discussion with CMD of the construction company at Dakshinpat, Majuli. With piling work scheduled from November 30 & work targeted to be completed in 4 yrs, the bridge will improve connectivity between Majuli & Jorhat.”

CM Sarma also laid foundation stone of various projects to be implemented by water resources department in Majuli.

For people living in remote areas in Majuli Island (in between Brahmaputra River), the 2-lane major bridge including approaches over Brahmaputra River between Majuli (Kamalabari) and Jorhat (Nimati Ghat) (6.8 km) on NH-715K will be constructed at a costing Rs 925.47 crore.
