Assam joined the rest of the nation and the world in celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr marking the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Namaz were offered in the morning, as people prayed for world peace and amity. People braved floods and inclement weather to celebrate Eid with traditional fervour and gaiety.
While men offered morning namaz at ‘Eidgah’ fields, women prepared Eid delicacies in their houses besides visiting family members, relatives and friends.
Meanwhile, namaz venues had to be shifted in many places across Assam owing to the floods. Namaz was offered on the terrace of a building at Hailakandi. Alternate arrangements were also made for the morning namaz at many other flood-hit places across Assam.
Meanwhile, President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Sarbannada Sonowal, State Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with various other political and apolitical leaders greeted people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
