Assam: Captain Jintu Gogoi remembered on Kargil Vijay Diwas

GUWAHATI: On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Captain Jintu Gogoi of Indian Army who made supreme sacrifice in the war against Pakistan was remembered at Khumtai in Assam’s Golaghat district.

Gogoi who hailed from Khumtai area in Golaghat fought valiantly against the enemies and attained martyrdom on June 30 in 1999 during the Kargil war. He was the captain in 17 Garhwal of the Garhwal Rifles.

The family members and local residents of Captain Gogoi’s birthplace paid tribute to the martyr on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

“It is really a day of pride for us. We have been receiving phone calls from across the country including army officials remembering Jintu Gogoi. He made supreme sacrifice for the country,” said one of the family members of the martyred captain.
