GUWAHATI: The ongoing disagreement between Congress and Raijor Dal over the Thowra seat has made the bypoll for Bhabanipur seat interesting with state Congress president Bhupen Borah announcing that the party will contest from the seat if Raijor Dal takes too long to decide. The disagreement started with Congress and Raijor Dal putting up candidates in the Thowra vidhan sabha seat.
Clarifying the stand among the two parties Bhupen Borah said, “As per our earlier discussions, Congress was supposed to contest from all the six seats but left two seats–Bhabanipur (Raijor Dal) and Majuli (AJP)–to the two regional parties. AJP has agreed to our Majuli offer and we have to come to an understanding with Akhil Gogoi for Bhabanipur.”
On being asked whether there are chances of change in the decision, Borah clearly stated, “Our candidates have been declared. AICC takes the decision and it has been done. We can’t change it now. We have kept the Bhabanipur for Raijor Dal. If they don’t take it we will announce our candidate. Once a decision has been taken in the AICC under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi there is no point rethinking about it.”
