GUWAHATI, Oct 24: The BJP has retained the Rangapara, Ratabari and Sonari constituencies in the assembly bypolls in Assam.
BJP’s Rajen Borthakur defeated his nearest Congress candidate Kartik Kurmi by a whopping 50,104 votes in Rangapara while Bijoy Malakar was declared winner in Ratabari defeating Congress candidate Keshab Prasad Rajak by 23,955 votes.

BJP candidate Nabanita Handique, on the other hand, defeated her nearest Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Suri in Sonari.
AIUDF’s Rafiqul Islam won from Jania.
The Congress which had held the Jania seat drew a blank in the by-elections.
