GUWAHATI, Nov 23: The BJP and its allies AGP and UPPL have taken an early lead in all five constituencies of Behali, Samaguri, Bongaigaon, Dholai (SC) and Sidli which went to by-polls on Nov 13.
As per initial figures, BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarmah has taken a lead of 2,431 votes over his nearest Congress rival Tanzil Hussain, son of former Samaguri MLA Rakibul Hussain.
In Behali, BJP’s Diganta Ghatowal is leading by 3,589 votes over his Congress rival Jayanta Borah.
BJP’s Nihar Ranjan Das, on the other hand, has taken a lead of 2,150 votes over the Congress’ Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha in Dholai (SC) seat.
In Bongaigaon, former 8-term MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhury’s wife Diptimoyee Choudhury — candidate of BJP’s ally AGP — has widened her lead to 7,143 votes over Congress candidate Brajenjit Singha.
At Sidli, UPPL candidate Nirmal Kumar Brahma is also leading over his nearest candidate Suddho Basumatary of the BPF by 2,999 votes.
