GUWAHATI, Oct 22: The Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will not field candidates in any of the five assembly constituencies in Assam where by-polls will be held on Nov 13.
Although party supremo Badruddin Ajmal had announced a couple of days ago that his party will contest in only one constituency — Samuguri — from where former Assam Minister Rakibul Hussain’s son Tanzil is contesting on a Congress ticket, the party today (Oct 22) said it will abstain from contesting from Samuguri seat as well.
The party’s new stand was announced by Jania MLA Rafikul Islam while addressing media persons in Guwahati.
With the AIUDF pulling out, the main contest in Samuguri will be between Rakibul’s son Tanzil and BJP’s Diplu Ranjan Sarmah.
