GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed satisfaction over the state budget for the financial year 2020-21 which was tabled by finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.

“This budget has embraced all the sections of the people living across the Barak, Brahmaputra valleys and the plains and hills of Assam. This budget will benefit everyone,” said CM Sonowal.

Meanwhile, finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the soul of the budget lies in the flagship ‘Orunodoi’ scheme. An amount of Rs. 2800 crore has been earmarked for the Orunodoi scheme under which annually Rs. 10 thousand will be given to 27 lakh poor households through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Rs. 400 for medicines and Rs. 430 for pulses, sugar, fruits and vegetables will be provided under the flagship scheme.

On the other hand, agriculture minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora termed the state budget as satisfactory. Bora expressed hope that the budget would benefit a large number of farmers in the state.

Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi crirticised the budget terming it as the worst. According to Gogoi, it is a dream budget which has no link with the reality.

The leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia also called the budget as election-centric.
