Assam: BJP to contest 35 seats of Tiwa Autonomous Council, gives 1 to AGP

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (Assam) has announced the final list of candidates for the December 17 elections to the Tiwa Autonomous Council. The list of nominated candidates was announced at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Hengrabari, Guwahati. The ruling BJP has fielded candidates in 35 of the 36 constituencies in the council.  It left only one seat to its alliance partner AGP. BJP has this time fielded six women candidates for these seats.

According to BJP MP from Karbi Anglong Horen Singh Bey, the party has fielded candidates in 19 constituencies from Morigaon district, one constituency in Kaliabor, six constituencies in Guwahati, eight constituencies in Nagaon district and one constituency in Hojai district.

MP Horen Singh Bey said that under the strong leadership of state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonawal, NEDA convener Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP is at the forefront and will definitely win the Tiwa Autonomous Council elections.

The election to the 36-member Tiwa Autonomous Council in Assam will be held on December 17 following COVID-19 protocols and votes will be counted two days later.

The polling will take place between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM across the Council’s 36 constituencies spread over Nagaon, Morigaon, Hojai and Kamrup Metropolitan districts. The counting of votes will take place on December 19. If necessary, a re-poll will be held on December 18.

The State Election Commission will strictly follow the guidelines of the Election Commission of India to conduct the poll during COVID-19 pandemic.
