Assam BJP chief praises Rupjyoti Kurmi

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass heaped praises on new entrant Rupjyoti Kurmi who recently left the Congress party. Kurmi is a tea garden leader and four-time MLA from Mariani in Upper Assam.

Dass said that the former MLA doesn’t have any arrogance of being an MLA. “Rupjyoti Kurmi is a person who works for the people. Rupjyoti, who has been active on the floor of the assembly with informational statements, was not given due status and respect by the Congress party. The BJP respects all his hard work and his zeal to become a better people’s representative. All these factors made Rupjyoti Kurmi realize his self worth and therefore he joined the BJP”.

Rupjyoti Kurmi recently joined the BJP in the presence of Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Lakhimpur. Kurmi was unhappy about the way the Congress party was run by APCC president Ripun Bora and former minister Rockybul Hussain. After senior Congress leader Ajanta Neog from Golaghat joined the BJP before the Assembly elections, the joining of Kurmi will damage the Congress majorly in tea garden areas of Upper Assam. Kurmi who hails from the tea garden community was one of the tallest leaders in Congress from his community.
