Assam: Army rescues 50 people from flood-affected Nalbari

Nalbari (Assam): The Indian Army conducted rescue operations in Balitara and Satai areas late on Friday and rescued over 50 persons from the affected region.

“At least 50 elderly and children have been rescued from the flood-affected areas. There are a lot of people are still stuck in the floods. Army personnel have been taking people to safe places. We are also providing food and other necessities to the flood-affected people,” Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhushan Deb Chaudhury said.

According to a recent State Disaster Management Authority report, 20,235 people in 45 villages are still affected by the floods in the district.

Over 27 lakh people in 2,078 villages of 17 districts in the state have been adversely affected due to floods caused by the rise in water levels of various rivers following heavy rainfall.

The authorities have also opened around 929 relief camps and distribution centres in the state to extend aid to the people stuck in flood-affected areas. (ANI)
