Assam: Arms and ammunition recovered in Chirang

GUWAHATIi: In another operation against militancy in the Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) in lower Assam, police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Chirang district on Tuesday.

The haul of illegal arms and ammunition includes 1 AK Rifle, 1 HK Rifle, 1 Uzi type Rifle, 2 Pistols, Magazines and a huge amount of ammunition. Chirang Police carried out the operation in the Khagrabai village under the Runikhata Police Station.

Earlier on Sunday, Assam Police seized a huge amount of arms and ammunition from Kokrajhar district. The recoveries included 5 AK Rifles, 1 INSAS Rifle, 1 MMG with chain, 5 Pistols and a sizable number of ammunition.

Operations against the illegal activities have been carried out in other parts of the BTAD ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections which have been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The BTC polls were scheduled for April 4 but were deferred indefinitely on March 20. After the expiry of the Bodoland People’s Front-led council, the BTAD was placed under the governor’s rule.
