In a significant political development, Angkita Dutta, former President of IYC Assam and daughter of the late Congress stalwart Anjan Dutta and former Assam minister and Congress leader Bismita Gogoi is expected to join the BJP on January 28.
Earlier, Dutta had sought ‘Nyay’ from Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Assam, alleging harassment by IYC President Srinivas.
Angkita staged a protest in Amguri against a few sections of people, however, her voice was left unheard.
Following this, the former youth Congress leader decided to join the BJP.
It may be mentioned that former minister Bismita Gogoi has been inactive within the party for the last several years despite being in the Congress. Bismita Gogoi became a minister in the last regime of the late Tarun Gogoi’s chief ministership.
Bismita, who was neglected within the party after losing the elections, has long been rumoured to have secret ties with the BJP.
Joining their in this political shift are prominent figures such as Dipanka Nath (Ex-AASU President), and Prakash Das (Ex-AASU VP), who will also likely join the BJP on the same date.
Notably, Shankar Prasad Ray (Ex-AASU President) is slated to follow suit at a later stage.
