Assam academician Prof. Dr. Upasana Mahanta appointed member of Cambridge-constituted body

Prof. Dr. Upasana Mahanta, hailing from Assam and daughter of eminent academician Late Prof. Sarat Mahanta, becomes the first Indian member to join this globally distinguished body

In a very good news for people of Assam, an academician from the State associated with O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat, Haryana, has been appointed member of a Cambridge-constituted body.

Prof. Dr. Upasana Mahanta, Dean of Admissions and Outreach at O.P. Jindal Global University, has been appointed to the Strategic Higher Education Advisory Council (SHEAC) constituted by Cambridge International, becoming the first Indian member to join this globally distinguished body.

SHEAC brings together senior leaders in admissions and enrollment from leading institutions such as the University of Oxford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge, the University of Toronto and Monash University.

The Council plays a vital role in shaping how Cambridge qualifications are recognized and supported worldwide, ensuring alignment with the evolving landscape of higher education.

Prof. Mahanta’s inclusion is not only a testament to her leadership in higher education but also a recognition of India’s growing voice in shaping international education pathways.

Prof. Mahanta is the daughter of Late Prof. Sarat Mahanta, retired Head of the Department of History, Sibsagar College, and Mina Mahanta, and the sister of IPS officer and Guwahati Police Commissioner Dr Partha Sarathi Mahanta and DR Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College, Sivasagar.
