Assam: 57 thousand posts vacant in 37 departments, Patowary tells house

GUWAHATI: Altogether 57,835 posts are lying vacant in various government departments in Assam, informed state parliamentary affairs minister Chandra Mohan Patowary at Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday.

Replying to a question of Congress legislator Jakir Hussain Sikdar, minister Patowary said that a total of 57,835 have been lying vacant in 37 departments of the state.

While the highest number of vacant posts (17,192) is lying in the primary education department, the home department and the department for the welfare of plain tribes and other backward classes have 14,172 and 6,878 vacant posts respectively. The department of water resources has 3,347 vacant posts followed by 3,014 posts in transport, 1,938 in higher education and 1,360 in the general administration department.
