Assam: 52-year-old killed in Tinsukia over minor spat, 8 arrested, 2 on the run


Guwahati: In a gruesome incident, a 52-year-old resident of Holong, Gotabari at Tinskuia district village under Bordumsa police station was allegedly attacked and murdered by 10 people in a row.

According to the reports, on the evening of August 15, a minor (juvenile), was questioned by another man named Bhaben Gogoi (52) about his studies which later on turned into an ugly argument.  The teenage boy was also hit by Bhaben Gogoi.

After the spat between the two, the family of the minor went to Bhaben Gogoi’s house to discuss about the whole matter which ultimately led to the heinous murder of Gogoi. He was attacked by 10 people at a time.

According to the police complaint, a young man among the 10 people involved in the crime paralyzed Bhavan Gogoi’s nerves and intestines leaving him critically injured during the assault.

After the incident took place, Gogoi’s family members took him to a local hospital and later on he was shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.

Gogoi breathed his last on August 18 while undergoing treatment in Dibrugarh. Assam Police handed the body of the deceased to the family members for cremation.  

So far, Bordumsa Police has arrested Soneswar Saikia, Rabin Saikia, Lachit Saikia, Pradeep Saikia, Jagat Saikia, Ananda Saikia, Suarajit Saikia and the minor for the offence. Two main accused Debojit Saikia and Bitopan Saikia, out of the 10 in the police complaint are on the run.

Under Section 448/325/427/34/302 of the Indian Penal Code, a case has been registered at Bordumsa Police Station No. 44/2020 and the 8 accused who were arrested by Assam Police have been sent to judicial custody.
