Assam: 5 COVID-19 patients discharged from GMCH, JMCH

GUWAHATI: Five COVID-19 patients have been discharged from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati and Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) on Monday. Three patients from GMCH and two from JMCH have been discharged after testing negative twice. Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was present at GMCH during the discharge of the patients.

Addressing media persons Dr. Sarma said, “A 13-year old girl Champa Borah who went to Mumbai for open-heart surgery under a scheme of  the Government of Assam tested positive on May 13. Her mother who was negative wanted to stay with the girl. Though her mother took a big risk staying in the same room for around 11 days, the mother also tested negative.”

Sarma mentioned that the mother and daughter found negative for COVID-19 on May 23 and 24.

With the discharge of the five patients, the number of recovered people has become 62. Currently, there are 445 active cases in the State.

On Monday Assam registered 122 positive cases which is the largest-single-day spike so far.
