Assam: 5 Al Qaeda Jihadis arrested in Barpeta

Guwahati:  The Assam Police on Friday, arrested 5 persons from Howly area in Barpeta and Kalgachia for their suspected links with a Jihadi outfit of Bangladesh having affiliation to Al-Qaida in Indian subcontinent.

Based on intelligence report shared by Special Branch, Assam and developing on those inputs, Barpeta Police successfully nabbed the accused.

The accused were identified as Md Suman alias Saiful Islam, who hailed from bangladesh, Khairul Islam from Kalgachia, Badshah Suleiman Khan from Kalgachia, Noushad Ali from Kalgachia and Taimur Rahman Khan from Howly.

During the preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that Saiful Islam who is a citizen of Bangladesh have illegally entered India and was working as a teacher of Dhakaliapara Masjid.

Reportedly, Islam successfully indoctrinated and motivated four other accused to join the module of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) with a view to develop Barpeta district as a base for Jihadi work and unlawful activities of Al-Qaida and its related organisations.

Moreover, police has also recovered incriminating documents and electronic devices from the possession of the accused.
