Assam: 37 held in Dhubri, were in a truck to Bengal

Guwahati: Amid Coronavirus scare, a serious breach of the Covid-19 lockdown protocol was reported in Golokganj at Dhubri district, Assam. Around 37 people tried escaping the lockdown by hiding themselves in a truck which was travelling to West Bengal.

The Assam Police held these 37 people at the Chagolia check gate, Golokganj. These 37 people were hiding in a truck which was travelling to Malda, West Bengal.

According to Police officials, these 37 people were travelling from Hojai and Lanka and tried travelling to Malda, West Bengal by hiding themselves in a truck.

One of the apprehended youth said, “I want to return to my home in West Bengal. We came to Assam for work purpose but couldn’t return in time because of the lockdown so we were trying to go back. We have no idea what Assam government is going to do for us”.

More than thousand people have been arrested and more than 500 cases registered so far in Assam for not following the lockdown restrictions imposed in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
