Assam: 3 incidents of fire in last 24 hours, property worth Rs 10 lakh gutted

Amid Lakshmi Puja festivities, Assam reported as many as 3 fire incidents on Saturday night. As many as 7 houses were reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out in Dibrugarh district.

The fire caught in the Harijan colony, Dibrugarh. However, no casualties have been reported till now, Ujwal Phukan, Vice President, of Dibrugarh Municipality told the media.

Alerted by the locals, fire tenders were rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

In another incident, a devastating fire broke out at the house of Sahin Akhtar in the Madhurband area of Silchar, causing extensive damage.

After having dinner, Akhtar was relaxing at his home, when he noticed sparks emanating from his bedroom’s switchboard. Within moments, the sparks transformed into a fierce blaze engulfing his entire house.

Two fire tenders rushed to the scene and doused the blaze. Akhtar said that property worth Rs 10 lakhs has destroyed.

In the third incident of fire, a bus belonging to the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) went up in flames in Guwahati. The bus was parked by the roadside in Panjabari area of the city. No casualties have been reported.

The driver of the bus alleged that some miscreants might have set the bus on fire.
