Assam: 26 Bangladeshi nationals detained in Dhubri

GUWAHATI: A group of 26 suspected Bangladeshi national was detained at Bahalpur in Dhubri district on Sunday. The group arrived in Dhubri district by two vehicles from Jorhat. They reportedly entered Assam with tourist visa around 2-3 years ago. Later they were engaged in fishing at Kokilamukh in Jorhat district after their visa got expired.

According to reports, a man from Jorhat helped them in travelling to Dhubri with fake identity. They were travelling to Senrabandha in West Bengal along Indo-Bangladesh border. The group was caught from two travellers bearing registration numbers—AS 01 HC-5934 and AS-04 BC-1383. Later they were sent to Dhubri for quarantine by the district administration.

Meanwhile, the incident has created sensation in Jorhat as these illegal foreigners were taking shelter in the district. Jorhat unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has demanded an investigation into the incident.
