Guwahati: Assam Police detained 21 people and arrested 3 for their alleged involvement in setting Batadrava Police Station in Nagaon district on fire on Saturday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Majibur Rahman, Rafiul Islam and Anowar Hussain.
The station in charge of the Batadrava police station has been placed under suspension with immediate effect following the incidents of Saturday.
In addition, all police officials of the police station have been transferred as a disciplinary measure.
According to orders, Kumud Gogoi, station in-charge of Batadrava police station was suspened after the police station was set on fire by locals enraged over the custodial death of a person.
The order came from the deputy inspector general (DIG) of central Assam police, Satyaraj Hazarika.
A mob attacked the Batadrava police station on Saturday, accusing the Police for custodial death of a person named Safikul Islam, a fish trader by profession of Salnabaori village.
A woman, who was seen pouring inflammables in the police station before fire engulfed the property has been reportedly arrested.
Maenwhile, the Nagaon district administration has launched a a massive eviction drive in the Salnabori area from Sunday morning.
Nagaon DC has instituted a magisterial probe into the incident
District administration officials said the eviction drive has been launched against illegal settlers.

Meanwhile, reports said Safiqul Islam of Salnabari under Dhing police station was picked up by Batadrava police last night. His family accused the cops of demanding Rs 10,000 and a duck for his release. Safiqul allegedly died in police custody and his family found his body in a hospital in Nagaon on Saturday.
Nagaon SP Leena Doley, however, claimed the person named Safiqul was brought by police in an inebriated condition from Bhumuraguri following information provided by some people. She said his family members were informed about him being picked-up by police following which they came in the morning and even provided him food. His condition, however, deteriorated following which he was sent to the local PHC and then referred to Nagaon civil hospital where he was declared brought dead.
